I HAVE HALOGEN DOWNLIGHTS CAN I CHANGE THEM TO LED DOWNLIGHT?
What if you have halogen downlights to fill the ceiling but want to replace them with LED? LEDs are much more energy efficient and will certainly save on your energy bills, but how easy is it to achieve this with minimal disruption? If you are considering renewing a halogen downlight, you have two options: replace the existing bulb or upgrade the entire lighting system and plug, bulb, operation and dimming system. The former does not offer the same light quality as halogens and should not last more than 20,000 hours. You can do it yourself, but it’s best to check with an electrician that the power source (transformer/driver) and dimmer are compatible with the LED replacement. When you switch to a fully dedicated system, the system is designed to work together and provide the best light quality in terms of light efficiency, color uniformity, color reproduction, dimming efficiency and focal angle selection. A typical philips led downlight life would be 30,000, but this work should be done by a qualified electrician.
